Nature Database

In 2024, Globeteam assisted the Danish Environmental Portal in developing the Nature Database – a new web platform and mobile app that future-proofs the work of managing and protecting Denmark’s natural resources.

In the Nature Database, authorities, researchers and environmental organisations can create, search and share data about the state of nature, species, habitat types and habitats. Data that can be used to document and analyse the state of nature and help ensure compliance with legal requirements.

With the accompanying mobile app for both Android and iOS, data can be entered directly in the field via smartphone where it is collected in a common, national register of nature observations.

The solution replaces NaturAppl from 2011 and marks a significant modernisation, making it easier and more efficient to create new nature registrations, edit data and quality assure the information through validation functions.

For example, users now have access to hundreds of map layers across the Environmental Portal’s systems for viewing and searching directly in the user interface, as well as the ability to flag unsecure data so it can be easily revisited later.

The nature database provides a central platform for conservation work and is an example of how Globeteam contributes to thinking sustainability and digitalisation together.
