MARS supports Denmark's green transition

In 2024, Globeteam has played a central role in the development of MARS – Multifunctional Land Registration – a digital system that supports Denmark’s ambitious goal of green land conversion. The system has been developed for the Danish Agency for Green Transition and the Aquatic Environment in collaboration with the Danish Environmental Portal and will help municipalities, local stakeholders and tripartite organisations to plan, coordinate and follow up on initiatives in the open countryside.  

MARS supports the implementation of the green tripartite agreement and is a key component of the national strategy for the conversion of large areas to forest, wetlands and nature. The system collects and structures data to provide users with a common digital basis for prioritising and executing on goals such as reducing nitrogen emissions and setting aside carbon-rich land. The goals include reducing nitrogen emissions by 13,800 tonnes, removing 140,000 hectares of wetland and establishing up to 250,000 hectares of new forest.  

Globeteam has delivered a full end-to-end solution with a focus on robustness, accessibility and customised functionality. The system was launched in January 2025 and builds on existing IT modules developed under the auspices of the Danish Environmental Portal, where a high degree of reuse made it possible to develop a very complex system in a very short time. The development was done in close dialogue with users and with a flexible, iterative approach that makes the platform both scalable and future-proof.  

With MARS, Globeteam has helped translate complex legislation and political objectives into a concrete and operational tool. The system not only contributes to more efficient land management, but also to Denmark reaching its ambitious climate goals through technology and data-driven planning.
